Description

The Future Technologies group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks computer scientists to investigate the architectures of and software systems for high-end computer systems.

  Areas of interest include (not exclusive)multicore

Research activities include, but are not limited to: A staff position requires a M.S. or Ph.D. in computer science or computational sciences with recent leading-edge research experience on high end computing systems. The position also requires demonstrated experience in software development on parallel computers using message passing, OpenMP, and Fortran 90, C, or C++, along with expertise in at least one of the following areas: architectures, interconnects, operating systems, compilers, runtime systems, programming tools, parallel I/O, and parallel filesystems. Candidates must have a proven record of research accomplishments and a strong desire to participate in research efforts in a team environment. Accordingly, the candidate must demonstrate clear communication skills.

About the area

JICS was established by The Science Alliance, a Center of Excellence in Tennessee, as a consortium among UT, ORNL, and other participating academic institutions within Tennessee, and delegated the task of facilitating high-performance computing research.

Located nearby is the historic city of Oak Ridge.

Few areas in the country can boast such a concentration of scientific personnel and technical resources. Because of the proximity between UT and ORNL, a wealth of scientific research collaborations abound.

Knoxvillians and visitors alike savor an enchanting assortment of cultural diversions---the Knoxville Museum of Art, bluegrass and jazz musicians, ballroom, swing, and country/western dances, riverboat excursions, and fine dining coupled with the warm hospitality of the South.
