Colloq: Abstract:
DARPA's HPCS program has challenged the High-End Computing Industry with improving user productivity by the year 2010. One of the ways that Cray's Cascade team is responding to this challenge is by developing a new parallel language named Chapel. Chapel is designed to support a global view of parallel programming, and to narrow the gap between mainstream and parallel programming languages. In this talk, I will describe the motivations and foundations for Chapel, introduce several Chapel concepts in detail, and illustrate their use in some sample computations written in the language.
