FT researchers accelerate Molecular Dynamics application on Cell and GPU

This week at the Sixth IEEE International Workshop on High Performance Computational Biology, Sadaf R. Alam presented the paper “Analysis of a Computational Biology Simulation Technique on Emerging Processing Architectures” by Jeremy Meredith, Alam and Jeffrey S Vetter. The paper describes the mapping of a molecular dynamics (MD) application kernel onto the Cell Broadband Engine processor, a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), and the Cray Multi-Threaded Architecture (MTA-2) platform.
